“To share Jesus to every child in our city”: that is the vision behind Kids Explosion. Talking to a group of approximately 25 elementary students during one of the six meetings she holds each week at multiple locations around Jackson, Wendy Wight delineated that concept while also telling them: “Anyone who belongs to Christ Jesus and wants to live for Him will have trouble from others.” She also pointed out that “we should always pray for the well-being of those who hurt us, especially in their times of need”; and praying that “these people won’t go to hell” as we reveal Christ in us to them. To share the point “God loves me. I have sinned. Jesus died for me” to this dying world, we must first “decide to live for Him”, even when people hurt us.
The children at Kids Explosion seemed receptive and understanding of the lessons given by Wendy Wight that day. She makes learning fun for the kids. There were contests where the children won prizes for being able to say all the books in the New Testament in the correct order; Bible “sword drills”, where kids tried to find and read bible verses, selected by Wendy, before anyone else did. The elementary students enjoyed doing those and other fun activities, but they seemed to like dancing and singing to the song “To God Be The Glory” the most. Playing hot potato with a balloon to music ranked close behind.
The youngsters at Kids Explosion showed great enthusiasm as they learned about Christ and played games with each other. If groups of children like these can learn to build quality relationships with one another while developing a passion to know and serve Christ, much of the problems of society will go away. The lost will become saved, and the broken-hearted will find comfort and joy from God, and also from an encouraging friend.
Man is dependent upon both God and other people. In a rippling effect, when programs like Kids Explosion build relationships between child and God and child and child, we can potentially strengthen our society as our leaders of tomorrow can learn to love and rely upon God and one another. We can then come another step closer toward creating a “worldwide Kids Explosion” community, comprised of an entire world of multicultural, maturing Christians who enjoy being together.
God is relying on us to be His voice and show His love – let’s bless our Jackson children with truth and joy. The summer session of Kid's Explosion runs from June 18th until August 10th and the planning is happening right now. Contact Wendy Wight at 740-8444 to find out how you can help.
